Captain Malcolm Soares, VP Asia Pacific at Marine Press, was invited to speak at a recent Informal Tanker Operators’ Safety Forum (ITOSF) held in Hong Kong. ITOSF is an invitation-only gathering of tanker operators that convenes several times a year to exchange safety information and to discuss matters of concern to mariners. While commercial matters are not the focus of ITOSF gatherings, Simplify Digital Navigation was the topic of Captain Soares' presentation.
"Digital navigation is being adopted throughout the industry today," says Captain Soares. "The stakes are higher and risks are greater than ever before. Failure to seamlessly adapt to digital navigation has serious risks, including for the safety of the vessel, its crew and to the fleet operator. Mariners need to be careful not to fall prey to marketing gimmicks and outsource this critical responsibility to third-party vendors. Although digital navigation can be perceived as needlessly complicated, new technologies are available that finally make the digital transformation a simple and easy to use process. Marine Press has been instrumental in bridging the gap in digital navigation and truly simplifying it through its innovative technologies and solutions."
